Vision Statement

The Resource Program aspires to accomplish the mission of St. Edward Catholic School by assisting students with special needs, their families, and their teachers in achieving the individual educational, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual goals of each student.

As the first Catholic school in the state to have a Resource teacher, we consider St. Edward to be the leader in providing Catholic education to students with special learning needs. We believe that all children should have the opportunity to attend a parochial school and receive a faith-based education.

St. Edward strives to look at each child as a unique individual. Admission to the Resource program is granted on a case-by-case basis through review of class performance, standardized test scores and teacher recommendation. We believe we are meeting the needs of a student with special needs when the child demonstrates continued academic and social progress.

We believe in a team approach that involves all of our teachers and staff. Our resource program is lead by Mrs. Patty James. She has taught for 19 years, including 12 at St. Edward. She holds a master's degree in Special Education and is certified in both Special Education and Elementary Education.

Students who need the assistance can attend resource classes with Mrs. James during the day. These classes provide additional opportunities to practice reading, phonics, and math skills. Students can also receive modifications in their regular classes if necessary. We use a modification checklist that we have developed over several years to create individualized plans for students. We also coordinate services with Little Rock School District and Tri-District Early Childhood Programs for speech therapy, as well as private occupational and physical therapists.
